Ultra-Precise Stereotactic Radiosurgery

Varian Optical Surface Monitoring System

The Varian Optical Surface Monitoring System (OSMS) is a new technology to Rocky Mountain Oncology and at the cutting edge of technology in the United States.  The OSMS system projects geometric shapes on to a patient via projectors in the ceiling.  The system then uses stereoscopic cameras to understand how those geometric shapes look on a patient.  From this information, the patient’s contour is digitized.  Imaging via our On-Board Imaging (OBI) system will make any millimetric adjustments to the positioning of a patient and the OSMS system is “baselined.”  If, during the treatment, the patient shifts (e.g. cough), the OSMS system will recognize this shift and interrupt treatment.

The workflow utilizing OSMS, when used in conjunction with Varian’s Cones and Cone Planning Treatment Planning, and the use of a 3 Degree of Freedom (DoF) overlay board, allows for ultra-precise Stereotactic Radiosurgery treatments and is a first in Wyoming.
