According to the American Cancer Society, in 2019 about 1 man in 9 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind lung cancer. About 1 man in 41 will die of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer can be a serious disease, but most men diagnosed with prostate cancer do not die from it. In fact, more than 2.9 million men in the United States who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point are still alive today.
At Rocky Mountain Oncology Center, we believe patients should understand the treatment options available to them when making decisions about prostate cancer care. Radiation therapy can provide a precise, non-invasive approach to treating prostate cancer, with treatment tailored to the location and characteristics of the cancer and the individual needs of each patient.
Our radiation oncologists use advanced treatment planning and imaging technologies to accurately target the prostate while working to minimize radiation exposure to nearby healthy tissue and organs. Depending on your diagnosis and treatment plan, different radiation techniques may be considered to provide the most appropriate care.
Advantages of advanced radiation therapy for prostate cancer may include:
Radiation therapy offers an effective, highly targeted approach to prostate cancer treatment. Modern radiation technologies allow treatment to be carefully planned around each patient’s anatomy and diagnosis.
At Rocky Mountain Oncology Center, we use advanced radiation therapy to provide precise, personalized prostate cancer treatment with a focus on quality, comfort and convenience. Radiation therapy uses high-energy radiation to target cancer cells and may be used to destroy or control cancer, reduce the risk of recurrence or relieve symptoms associated with advanced disease.
Your treatment is custom-tailored to your diagnosis, tumor characteristics, location and individual needs. Your radiation oncologist will review the available treatment options and recommend a personalized plan based on established treatment guidelines.
Depending on your diagnosis and treatment goals, Rocky Mountain Oncology Center may use several radiation treatment techniques for prostate cancer, including:
Radiation therapy may be delivered from outside the body using a linear accelerator, known as external beam radiation therapy, or through a radiation source placed temporarily or permanently within the body, known as brachytherapy. Your care team will determine which approach or combination of treatments is most appropriate for you.
At Rocky Mountain Oncology Center, we understand that every prostate cancer diagnosis is different. Our experienced oncology team provides personalized treatment based on your diagnosis, cancer characteristics, overall health and individual treatment goals.
We combine advanced radiation treatment options with compassionate, patient-centered care in a comfortable setting close to home. Our goal is to help you understand your options and feel informed and supported throughout every stage of treatment.
